Anyone have info on what the difference between OME nitro shock and OME nitro sport shocks is? Its a $40 dollar price difference that's all I know.

yes, you're on the right track...generally, "long travel" means the compressed shock length is longer.

In the context of Old Man Emu's shocks, the "long travel" shocks are as follows: N66L=15.5" compressed length and N67L = 14.5" compressed length. Front requires 2" bumpstop extension, and rear requires 2.5" - for standard shock mounts.

Now, some folks modify their shock mounts (welding & fabrication) to use long travel shocks with lower lifts and less bumpstop extension. If you throw out the limitations of the stock mounts, you can do a lot of cool stuff.

Here's some write-ups:

While OME is great quality stuff and rides nice (I run it), I wouldn't recommend OME shocks in the rear with that setup unless you have 1.25" bumpstop extension. The front N66 shocks would be fine, but the rear N67 & the comparable Sport shocks require 1.25" bumpstop extension in the rear to prevent bottoming out. With your 0.75" spacer, you'd lose travel vs your current setup.

Alternatively, if you want to keep your current suspension setup and not add more lift and bumpstop extension in the rear, then I'd suggest getting Bilstein HD rear shocks for a stock TJ, PN 24-024433.

So thats OME N66 fronts and Bilstein 24-024433 in the rear. If you want to keep the same brand shocks front and rear, then go with Bilstein 24-024426 front shocks. Either will work good for your current setup.
Thanks for the advise. I ordered the Bilstein front and rear shocks today. These will hopefully be better then the skycrapper hydros and RE monojunks I've had in the past.

I'm planning on getting the original nitro shocks that are for 0 lift. Its a DD so I'm not to worried about the shocks bottoming out on the highway. I've already done the lift thing before and had way too many problems and am happy with the current setup minus the shocks.

Thanks. I was looking at them on 4x4groupbuy and wasn't sure if spending the extra 40 would make difference. I'm only running a 1.75 spacer up front and a. 75 spacer in the rear with stock springs and looking for a good ride. I have 20 dollar gabrial shocks now and its not a fun ride.

The Nitro Charger is the original OME shock that they've always made. The Nitro Sport is their new shock that they've come up with. I bought the Nitro Sport from Dirk at DPG Off-Road and I'm very, very happy with them. The entire OME lift kit is top notch. :thumb:

As far as specific differences I can't say, but I'm not very knowledgeable on shock technology.

NITROCHARGER SPORT SHOCK ABSORBERS

Old Man Emu suspension systems have always focused on ride quality rather than ride height and this new line of shock absorbers includes some of the latest shock valving technology achieving a whole new level of ride quality.

Most dual and monotube shocks typically feature a two-stage valving process, the new OME NitroCharger Sport features a triple-stage valving process rivaled only by a remote canister adjustable shock. We’ve stacked it into the most durable shock body and adjusted it by load capacity for you. So, rather than offering a single adjustable shock, the OME engineers have done all of the testing and tuning adjustments for you. You get to choose from a selection of shock absorbers for your application based on your load-carrying configuration, guaranteeing an immediate and ideal ride without any costly fine-tuning required post-installation.

The monotube style main piston valving improves transition and direction changes while the extra base valving provides more fine-tuning for comfort and control. So, the new OME NitroCharger Sport feels like a monotube without the vulnerability or the high price tag

SHOCK ABSORBERS - NITROCHARGER

Australia's unique driving conditions call for a different approach to shock absorber design. Invariably, vehicles are heavily loaded, fitted with accessories and driven on harsh Outback roads for prolonged periods.

When developing shock absorbers, Old Man Emu takes all these factors into consideration. This is reflected in the superb structural integrity of Nitrocharger shocks, along with the fact they are properly valved for the conditions they will be required to work under.

This experience in setting the most appropriate valving is what really sets the Nitrocharger apart from its competitors. OME engineers have extensive knowledge in this field as they specialize in nothing else but 4WD suspension systems. When developing a shock absorber, consideration is given to both original equipment and OME springs. In many cases, several shock absorber applications will be listed for one vehicle to ensure the proper match regardless of spring selection, installed accessories or load carrying requirements.

While OME Nitrochargers will improve overall ride performance when fitted with standard springs, more substantial benefits can be achieved when fitted in conjunction with OME springs. Improved ride, load carrying characteristics, and wheel travel are all benefits of such a combination.

Used by 4 wheelers throughout the world, OME Nitrochargers set the standard in ride comfort over any terrain and simply outperform the competition.
