Ive read that running beadlocked wheels on the street is illegal because of their muliti-piece design. But as a question to anyone running beadlocked wheels, have you ever had a problem with police saying anything to you about them? Because I want to have beadlocks for the sake of offroading but dont really want to get any tickets while im at it.

it's not the multi-piece design that makes them illegal in some areas, it's the fact that older ones used to loosen their bolts when driving highway speeds. now you can find some newer designs that are road legal.

Most cops don't even know what they are lol. The big reason why they arnt legal is because you can't balance them. If u weight them and the rubber moves when u air down. Ur effed. I would e more worried about a DOT at a road block. I run 17 inch trail ready bead locks with 35" kuhmos. No problem yet lol.

The only state I am aware that has actually made beadlocks illegal is Utah IIRC & I follow this subject very closely. No, the Federal DOT has NO laws against beadlocks and in fact, there are no DOT certified beadlocks either. The DOT has no opinion on them. They are legal in all states with the exception of Utah... unless another state recently banned them. I run beadlocks on my TJ here in California with no cares.
