Safelite targeting Wrangler owners?

Half-serious question. I've had my jeep for almost 2 years, and over those two years I've done LOTS of internet searches for jeep-related things, as well as posting on this forum a fair amount. I've also noticed a major uptick in Safelite ads popping up in various places, specifically talking about windshield replacement. I wonder if I'm being targeted because Wranglers are infamous for having crack-prone windshields...

Safelite is expensive. Can be a ripoff, but then you have stories like mine where they replaced the windshield on my truck 5 times because the molding on a corner kept turning up and I only ever bought a single windshield.

To your question of targeting, I don't know that it is Safelite targeting you, more likely Google knows you drive a wrangler and therefor more likely to need a windshield and Safelite just happens to be the local windshield place paying them for placement.

I think every cell phone listens to your in person conversations. I can't tell you how many times I've had a discussion with someone and later in the day I see pop up ads related to what we were talking about.

I'm happy with Safelite - had the windshield replaced on my Gladiator and when he was done he was cleaning the new glass and spent a lot of time on one particular spot. He then told me that I could reject the glass if I wanted because it had a flaw; I searched where he was pointing and couldn't see anything wrong until he had me get real close and look at a specific angle. There was a tiny imperfection, almost like a tiny dust mote, imbedded in the glass. I told him that it was so small it wouldn't be worth rejecting it and waiting for a new windshield, and it was really hard to see, so I would take it as it is. It's been that way for 3 years now and I still don't see it unless I really look for it.

Experiences vary within a company. With that said it sounds like Safelite does better than average job from posts here.

@bill61 said he'll pay the extra for safelite's care during install. I have a Guy that has been doing all my vehicles Glass for about 20 years now. He comes and takes about twice as long as needed, we talk jeeps, trucks, tires, guns, tools, whatever.

About the only guy I let work on any of my cars. Not much more on cost, but it's nice not to have buyers remorse after breaking out the credit card. Lol

I contend Safelite targets windshield owners.

Used them several times in AZ, where Geico (at least) prefers them. Hassle free and costs me zero out of pocket here, so whatever. I don't even have to call or notify insurance- just show up and they do it all.

ETA: AZ has a zero deductible glass law if you have comp insurance coverage.

Enlighten me please... I don't pay for glass coverage on the the YJ's or older Honda, just the new fancy windshield cars,

Here's a quick blurb, and I am no insurance expert by any measurement, and it does not apply to liability-type coverages:

Key Takeaways
  • Replacing or repairing broken glass in your vehicle is covered under your comprehensive coverage
  • A zero dollar glass deductible means you can replace your damaged glass without an out-of-pocket cost
  • Kentucky and Arizona offer full glass coverage with no deductible for any drivers who have comprehensive coverage
It's really law here. Thankfully, it can't count against you when you make a claim as well, as I am told by my insurer. Whew!

I just had Safelite do my windshield. Did not turn it in to insurance because it was only 50 bucks more than deductible. They did it in my carport without me babysitting them. The job was satisfactory and came with warranty. I would have no problem using them again........in my area. You may live in an area where they hire the mental equivalent of a brain damaged 10YO. I understand the trepidation.

My only experience with Safelite was an eye opener. I had a 3 inch horizontal crack. They said it was too small to repair so they had to increase the length of the crack in ordsr to repair it. So they hit the windshield to make it longer before he used a center punch at each end of the crack as if he was stop-drilling a crack in sheet metal. It is akin to Discount poking more holes in a flat tire in order to repair it

He followed that up with epoxy filling before charging me $60 for the repair which they said would be applied to my $100 insurance deductible if I had to call them back if it cracks anymore.

The windshield repair failed and the crack went from driver to passenger A-pilar within a week. I called the local Safelite and was told to resubmit another work order, which resulted in the insurance opening a new claim because the original claim was closed upon repair.

Fortunately my Agent agreed to have the Claims Department reopen the closed claim and agreed to $40 more to meet the $100 deductible. I then took the Jeep to a real auto glass company for replacement without any objection by my insurer even though it was not one of their preferred shops. It cost more for the insurance company than paying Safelite, but it was done correctly this time.

I learned my lesson about Safelite.
