I want a jeep badly, I can not stand the wimpy look of my current buick century. So I have been looking lately for a jeep wrangler. However; I do not know what to buy. I really want a tan or green sahara, but don't know if i should be getting a TJ or YJ. Could anyone be awesome and from experience tell me which jeep I should get? I want an automatic 4.0 6cyl, but manual is fine. I found this, but do not know if it worth that much. I am torn if I should even be getting a jeep in college for fear of cost to run. I do not mpg to much, I am only getting 19mpg right now anyways.

Well, anyone insight would be amazing, thanks!

I understand the concern since I'm a junior in college and have had my jeep since sophomore year of high school. Whether you should get one or not depends on the amount of self control you have when it comes to wanting to build the jeep. My YJ has had no mechanical issues whatsoever since I've owned it, besides a starter. Its been extremely reliable. In my opinion, the real money pit is when you start to build it bigger and better. So if you can wait till after college to start building it, I'd say go for it. You'll love it. And I'd get a YJ. They're cheaper and easier to build. Plus the square headlights are better, we all know that.

I'd say go for it then. Throw on some nice wheels and tires and drive that sucker. Like I said, you'll love it.

As to that jeep you linked, if its as nice as it looks, it's worth that all day around here. Looks like a perfect daily driver.

Heck yea buy a Jeep! Taking advice from crazy Jeep owners will be the best lesson you'll ever learn so you'll probably be able to quit school and be a millionaire too. At the very least chicks will like you more. lol

I'm just picking. No reason why a decent YJ or TJ can't be a reasonably afordable ride. Best of luck!

Man 19 MPG! thats almost double what my YJ gets.

Why not? Go for it. Once bitten, the Jeep bug never lets go!
As far as which model, they are both good (TJ and YJ), depends on your preference as there are major differences in suspension, etc... But here, you're gonna find we prefer the YJ model ... obviously.
If mileage is not a major concern, and you want a vehicle that will get you around and great fun, then this is it!

Stick with what you've got now until you get out of college. Then buy a Jeep.

You'll likely have more time and $$$ to spend on your Jeep after graduation, and you'll be able to build it like you want it.

Older YJs will not be the reliable transportation that a college student needs, and likely won't get good gas mileage either.

Get the YJ!!! ditch the Buick... who cares about being able to build it until later. At least you will have a Jeep to build when you can afford it.

Speaking as someone over twice your age I have more regrets in my life for things I didn't do but should of than things I did do but shouldn't of. You only live once and the one thing we can't buy is time on this earth. Plenty of time for buicks when you are eligible for senior discounts.

Not saying go into debt up to your eye balls, I'm a firm believer in carrying as little debt as possible. But if you want one and can swing it........ do it!!!

(Advice goes double for women, don't be a coward)

I drove mine all through college. But beware...if you're going to be a broke college kid like I was, a YJ or TJ will bite you in the ass when you can least afford it. Everything will eventually need to be replaced. Just the way it is.

I managed to keep mine somewhat running for a few years while making bartender wages. It was tough. So just be prepared to shell out $. Constantly. That being said...I wouldn't trade my jeep for anything. Not even a JK.

On the flip side all older vehicles a "broke" college kid may drive a prone to break. OlderJeeps are about the easiest to fix and parts are affordable. They also have a great network of people ready to lend a hand. So on that end they may be better than alternatives.
