I have had an issue with my AX-15 transmission on my 4.0L. It can be hard to get into first and second and reverse. It also makes rattling as I engage first and vibrates as I drive down the road or let off the gas completely. I believe that it is the clutch and the throwout bearing. I was wondering if this would be the case and if I should replace other parts while I replace the two?

If you're experiencing difficulty shifting into first, second, and reverse gears, along with rattling during engagement and vibrations while driving your Jeep Wrangler AX-15 transmission, it's likely a clutch issue. When replacing the clutch and throwout bearing, consider also replacing the clutch pressure plate and potentially the flywheel if damaged. As preventative maintenance, replacing the rear main seal is also recommended. Additionally, check the U-joints on the driveshaft for any play and replace if necessary. Bleeding the clutch hydraulic system is another cheap and easy first step. If problems persist, consider upgrading to an external slave cylinder to avoid premature failure of internal aftermarket cylinders.
