I have to tell ya I am so very torn. It is either the duratracs in 285/75 16 flavor or the toyos in 295/75 16. This is going to be a little long so bear with me.

Plans for the jeep (2013 JK sport) are a lot of beach driving for fishing in NJ and minimal off road in the pine barrens with some camping a couple times a year. No mud for me and its also my DD. All my purchases will be in february when the good ol bonus comes so I have some time.

As for a lift, I plan on getting the TF performance leveling kit and getting rancho 9000's. Or see what the RK 1.5 is all about being it should be released by then. I would like 33's but the 295 toyos are intriguing. They would put me just above. I wouldn't worry about rubbing with the leveling kit as there will be no rock crawling involved. The weight of the toyos though are 64 lbs and duras 54. A little worried about the stock carrier as I will not be upgrading that.

Oh and about the 16 rim size. Not really a fan of 15 rim look and 16 is a bit cheaper than 17's selection. I am also aware that the tire sizes I am looking at are E rated. Not optimal but I am never in a rush to go anywhere and I believe I wont mind them at all. So what do think??

No doubt about it go with the 295 toyos. The xtremes look awesome. If they are as smooth and quiet as my e rated 285/75-16's you will be super pleased. WIth the 1.5" coil lift you won't have issues as I have plenty of room and there is only about 1/2" or so difference in them. Mine also are lighter then advertised weight per postal scale

I definitely think I'm leaning this way. Now if only RK will come out with their 1.5 coil lift and I can rack my brain about deciding between them and Teraflex.

Ill tell ya I went with the zone 3inch coil lift(430$). And with the toyo extremes in 35's . I get compliments all the time from other jeepsters. Not many At2's on the road around here. I've got 6k on them. Still unbelievably quiet even on the hwy.

New Toyo AT II - 285/75/16's on PRO COMP La Pas 29's

I just wanted to share my new tire upgrade!

After reading all of the great things on these forums about the Toyo AT II Open Country tires - I pulled the trigger and swapped out all 5 on our 2000 Jeep Wrangler.

285/75R/16's on PRO COMP La Pas 29 alloy rims. The Jeep came to us with the silver Jeep rims seen in the "before and after" picture. We really wanted the black on black look and are VERY happy with how they turned out. Just had them done yesterday and have about 100 miles on them - but the ride improvement is a HUGE difference and the highway noise, which was a concern, is almost non-existent. Very pleased so far. And this is the 10 ply version of this tire due to the size we used (direct replacement for the size that came off).

Once we get some miles on them - will post back our experience.

Toyo Open Country review

Been running these tires for about 8k miles, including about 450 miles per week on the highway, and off road most weekends, mostly on old logging roads, powerlines and New England trails. Air them down to 15-18lbs and they stick well.

Couldn't be happier with the performance on and offroad, and would buy them again in a hearbeat...but they aren't showing any wear yet! Great tires so far. :worthy:

First off hello and thanks for all the great info. just picked up a jku Rubicon and doing some research on new tires/wheels. Either swapping tires on oem rims or getting a 2nd set of wheels. Basically looking at an aggressive AT tire that handles well on the highway and in wet/snowy weather. thanks to your posts the Toyo at2s are top contenders (followed by BFG rugged terrain). keeping stock size (265/70/17) would be interested in your thoughts as to whether I should go with the P metric or LT option and benefits of one over the other. thanks

Welcome to the forum. the LT versions have a broader scalloped shoulder and deeper tread. Weighs a lil bit more than the p metric version yet still quiet, affordable, and trail ready.

i use my pmetric version in all sorts of terrain except for snow (pending till winter lol). Since you have a rubi, i would do the LT or extreme version for a more rugged look with no loss of drivability that the p metric offers.

2013 Rubicon 10A, factory height no lift added but HAD to throw on my new 35x12.5R17 Toyo ATII's and Rugged Ridge Rims.

Anyone with the 35/12.5 Extreme ATII's running them on a JKU can you tell me what air pressure you're running and if you chalk tested that pressure.

I hope to get some new ones mounted today on my new rubicon. going 285/75-17 (34")this time around. I had the opportunity to have the dealer install some Fierce attitudes for a great price but passed because I was so happy with the Toyos on my last wrangler.
local tire shop is giving my $625 for my take off rubber and I am keeping the rims.

I had them mount a 285/75-17 and a 285/70-17 and the 285/75-17 was too big. It filled up the entire wheel well and hit the sway bar with barely turning the wheel. They tire guy said that the 285-75-17's were as big as many 35" tires. It would take at least a 2.5-3" lift and new rims so I went with the 285/70's instead.

wow, u passed on some fierce altitudes. Seems like ALL users are impressed with these tires. You even went to get seconds jadmt. lol
The Fierce Altitudes were probably a decent tire but looked like they would have been loud on the highway and looked like they would chunk in a hurry, but without any experience with them I could be wrong. I know what the Toyos are and my last set looked brand new after 14000 miles. I probably should have chanced it and gotten the 285/75-17's but I am certain they would have needed a 3" lift as much bigger then the 285/70's as they were. The spec sheet does not accurately depict how much bigger they really are. when they are side by side I would say they are at least 2" taller. I think they are an honest 34" tire and the 285/70 closer to an honest 32" tire. They were also at least 10 heavier. I hoisted both up before they mounted them and big difference in weight. I think part of it on height is the 75's have a 3 ply sidewall so they do not squat at all. Anyway I put about 150 miles on today and still loving the smooth quiet ride of the LT285/70-17's.

Im currently wearing 35" Toyo MT's. 99% onroad and tires hum a little but I suspect they may get louder as they wear. I like the aggressive yet simple design of MT's and longevity but they are heavy. If I switched I'd go with LT or extreme version. Any comparisons to MT's?

toyo open country AT2 offers the 45 day 500 mile warranty trial offer so you can experience both LT/extreme if not satisfied.

i had pro comp xtreme mt2 and compared to my p metric at2, they are totally different. the toyo's doesn't "skid" when taking tight turns unlike the mt's. the at's are basically more streetable. although i never took my tundra w/ the pro comps offroad, the at2 can handle a good mix of different types of terrain. the pro comps wouldve done better in the mud in my opinion though...i'm not saying the at2's can't, but the mt's are meant for more harsher terrain than asphalt.
