I am hoping to get a good thread going around your jeep-towed trailers, how you tow them, what you put in them, etc...

My next dream is to either build/rebuild an m416 like this:

Anyone know how much a trailer like that goes for? Where to find a cheap one to restore? etc...

Will a bumper hitch suffice, and what type of receiver should one get? A standard ball hitch, or a pintile hitch? What wheels/tires do you have on your trailer, how much were they?

The key for this thread is ECONOMICAL trailer builds. One could go buy a sweet one for $4000 but who has that kind of money. Tips and tricks for a budget friendly trailer set up.

Where is the gnarliest place you have gotten your trailer? What has been your experience with towing one with a jeep?

What do you think???? Post pictures and details...

OP, I just picked up an m416 off craigs list. I paid $400 for it and it's in fairly rough condition. They are getting hard to find and they don't last long when they are posted.

As far as the hitch goes, I'd want it tied into the frame in one way or another. The stock bumpers are thin as beer cans. I'd be fearful to attach to much weight to them.

I'm going to run the pintle hitch unless I decide that I hate it. I would think a ball hitch would be to limiting in offroad situations. Theres a company that makes an offroad u-joint type hitch system that looks to me like the best option, but I don't know who they are or how much they cost. For me, I have a million things I need to do before I start worrying about he hitch system. Like rust, bearings, tires, etc....

Keep your eyes on craigslist. They can be found ocassionally. If you have a smartphone, download the craigs list app and plug in a search. It will notify you when ads matching your criteria are posted. Being the first to call is the key to craigs list. Also, your local jeep club would be another place to keep an eye out. It is afterall your fellow jeepers that have bought up all these trailers.;)
