Hello everyone,
I have a 2000 Jeep Wrangler 4.0 with a manual transmission, and i would like to know if it is possible to replace it with an automatic transmission from a Jeep Cherokee? If yes, which year models, and which Transmission?
Plus, what are the extra parts i need to buy?

Thank you

I would gladly swap you trannys except for the distance and mounting a clutch would be a PITA.

X2, the 4-speed AW4 from a Cherokee is a very popular swap for the TJ. It's not a bolt-in swap but neither is it that difficult as shown in the above link from Jeepsr4m. I helped install one into a TJ that competed in the King of the Hammers event last year, it's that good of a transmission.

The easy bolt-in automatic tranny swap is the 32RH 3-speed auto out of a '97 to '02 TJ with the 4.0L. I did that swap two years ago and it can be done in a weekend. :)

no not exactly
changes drive shaft lengths
requires cooling thru radiator or external
also lock up torque converter function requires either Auto PCM(computer) or some creative work around
it will bolt to 4.0 and current transfer case but transfer input shaft is wrong length so need special seal that kind of works or change of transfer case input

X2 to the above but to expand it a little, it's an easy bolt-in swap which I did to my '97 TJ. If you have any specific questions send me a message. This conversion was one of the most helpful/useful/best upgrades I did to my previous TJ. And even though my TJ already had f/r lockers, the automatic trans turned it into an absolute beast on the toughest trails imaginable.
