My Goodyear Wrangler tires seem to be turning a dark shade of gray (not a reference to a book or movie). I want them to be black, not Armour All shiny black, just dull black.

I have tried several spray on or wipe on products suggested on the forum, most look shiny. Don't want that.

Suggestions please?

I know first hand most of the spray on products say for a dull look to wipe it off the tire rather than let it sit and soak. Have you tried that?

You could also try a product for refreshing the black bumpers/fenders/etc instead of tire black. I think Mothers makes a black restore product if I remember correctly. This may be more flat color like what you are looking for.

Lots of great choices out there. Just need to know where to look. I use a site called Detailed Image. They do only high quality products for the most part and is geared towards auto detailers. I use Tuf Shine Tire Clear Coat. I put it on 3 weeks ago and looks like I did them yesterday. Washed the Jeep several since then even. It is expensive, but worth it for having them look great regardless of weather and it lasts a long time. Especially if you only want a nice matte finish and not shiny.

So in all my years of driving (since the early 70's) I have never really put anything on my tires other than soap and water. I was in the store today and they had the black magic bleach white for a couple bucks so I bought some. I used that then the lemon pledge and man it worked great.

Pledge. And as an added bonus, your tires will smell lemony fresh.

I dont wash my Jeep often but decided to clean it up after my last trip. I had some very difficult brown stains on my tires that I could not get off with various tire cleaners. I ended up using comet soft scrub and a scrub brush and eventually got the stains out. I put a little Mothers Back to Black on the fenders and tires and it looks pretty good. My Jeep is bed lined and there is nothing shiny on it so I get where the OP is coming from.

Simple Green and water, a 50/50 mix in a spray bottle. It's cheap and it works well. Wet the tire, spray it on, let is sit for a couple minutes, scrub with a brush, rinse, let dry. Nice black and natural looking tires.

I've always used Fantastic. The original. Works great on plastic and tires. Gets all the mud/dirt stain off the sidewalls with no shine.

Protectant 303 actually protects the rubber. Also great for all the plastic and under the hood. Between the JK, trailer, and Ram I buy the stuff by the gallon on line. I just did a clay bar wax with their quick spray wax, great.
