These boxes are just too cool to dispose of, so we put one to use in our family room. A little sanding and stain and it looked great as a piece of furniture ! We bought some hinge type liftop table springs to make it open and raise for eating or laptop use !

Gotta give my wife all of the credit. I saved the box and she repurposed it !! I also bought a couple of dummy hinges for the back edge that look like Jeep hood hinges. Got them at ACE Hardware. Put some rubber feet from menards on the bottom so it slides on the wood floor easily too.

Thought about coating it with varahane clear semi-gloss?

Looks nice.

.

The pictures don't show it but she did coat it with something so you can sit a drink on it and not leave a ring. I will post some better pics of it for you all when I get home.

Haven't done it yet but the wife wants it cedar lined to use for quilt/cover storage. I have to get on this project as I need the room back in my garage. It's been used as a work table all summer (with cardboard on top to protect the box top).

Was just gonna put a clear protective coating on it but the bit of stain you have looks good.

Yea. I was going to do a Mopar lift just for the crate. lol. Now I need to see if the dealership has any empty's. Doubtful. lol.

When I went to pick up my Mopar lift at the dealer, 4 parts and sales guys stood around it and commented how cool the crate looked. The 1st thing that came to mind that I shared with them was how some Jeepers were staining it and using it as a living room coffee table and others were selling them on eBay. They all thought the same as me....for the living room coffee table, that might work in our bachelor days or in the man cave but not so sure how the wife was going to react having it in the living room.

I put large wheels on the bottom and hinged the top. It holds all my Jeep parts (doorless mirrors, stock springs, etc) and seconds as an extra work table. The house decor just didn't match for the coffee table and my wife likely would have killed me. :D
