Hey all. I am looking to purchase a 94 YJ with a lift kit, and 32" tires. The seller states it won't go over 60 due to the lift and the tires. I think there has to be something else. Any advise on what I can look at to fix this issue? Any help would be appreciated.

Tires will make a difference in speed especially if its a 4 banger. i had a 2.5 " lift and 31 " tires and it struggled to hit 70 on a flat and uphill I was in 3rd sometimes.

I appreciate all the answers. I went to look at the Jeep, and it was way more work than I wanted to start with right off the bat. Too much frame repair, body rust, and leaks everywhere. This Jeep has been rode hard, and nobody took care of it. Thanks for helping, I am sure when I do purchase one of the few I am looking at, I will have more questions.

I agree with the 65 mph limit. Sounds like my 4 banger is running stronger though! I can hit 75 on a slight downward slope on the interstate and I have 33 x 12.5s! Roar! For those saying its a death trap... it runs smoother than most cars I have been in!

The real question here is,

"Is your speedometer accurate?"

Chances are, no, it is not. Speedometer accuracy changes depending on the age, the design, and the tire size. Everything is engineered to be accurate with factory components. Older YJ's have a mechanical speedometer setup with a cable and a spring inside of the gauge itself. Over time this spring gets worn out, so accuracy is altered, even with the factory 215/70/15 tire size (which is about 28"). I had 235/75/15 tires on my YJ (about 29.5" tall) and my speedometer was perfectly accurate on the money. My spring was worn out inside of the speedo itself. Newer YJ's with electronic speedometers do not have this issue.

Case in point, any change to the factory specified components alters the speedometer reading. 33's would throw it off quite a bit, so you might actually be going 75mph while the speedo only says 60mph. You need to verify with a GPS unit, preferably 2 separate ones (your phone, and a traditional GPS unit typically works well).

Speedo may be an issue. I am actually rethinking the purchase of this YJ, because the price is right, and other than cosmetics....it is a pretty solid ride. I appreciate all the help, it is making it a lot easier to know what to do with it once it is in my driveway. I will have to try the GPS idea...that is an awesome idea. And no, I do not have a death wish, the speed limit is 70 on our highways, and I want to be closer than 60.
