I have a 2012 Jeep Wrangler unlimited Sahara that keeps getting a p0301 code and a p2302 code. I changed out all of my coil packs, spark plugs, and even changed out my computer. I’ve recently changed out all my rocker arms as well and my camshafts looked fine. My coil pack keeps cracking causing this code and it’s popping my auto shut down fuse so I can’t even drive it. Any ideas on what is causing this will be helpful, thank you. It’s the 3.6 pen star. Had it inspected about 5,000 miles ago because of the recall on the head cracking but they said mine was fine.

Did you get this resolved?

I had 3 coils break just like this in less than a week (Coil E, cilinder 5) on a 2012 JK sport. Took it to dealership for repairs, they want to change rockers and lifters along with the cams at over $5000 to address the issue... I don't see how internal moving parts are causing the coils to crack. would expected short in wiring or ECM issue...

Anybody, any advice?

There is a known problem with the rockers on the 3.6 so possibly they diagnosed that as a problem while they were looking at the coil problem. You are correct though that they wouldn't be physically impacting the coils. I'm not sure what in the world would cause 3 to crack in a week as usually it is heat an thermal cycles that wear them out.

2 things will cause the cracking. I'm unfortunately very experienced in this issue.

First is a short in the coil trigger line. The PCM fires the coil by grounding the trigger wire. If the insulation is work thru and shorting to ground, the coil will fire all the time and overheat the coil.

The other thing that will do this is a shorted coil driver in the PCM. Again, this causes the coil to overheat and crack, usually causing a coil open condition. If that's the case, you will need a replacement PCM (could possibly be repaired). I had both issues. I used Auto Computer Performance in FL. They inspected my PCM and although they could effect a repair, my board was damaged enough that they wouldn't warranty it. They were able to clone the programming into a replacement PCM, It was under $600 at the time. I was very happy with them, they answered the phone, gave advice and then promptly worked on my issue when they got my PCM.
