I have a chevy 350 in my 82 cj5 and up until yesterday everything was fine messing around and hit a bump too hard and now the distributor rotor is hitting the cap. Pulled cap and confirmed that rotor is hitting backside of cap (side that is next to firewall). Any suggestions on how to fix? It was running fine up until then, still does just makes knocking noise where rotor strikes cap. :pullinghair:

It sounds to me that you have more issues than just the rotor hitting the cap. If you hit a bump too hard and that was the result you might want to check your motor and transmission mounts. I suppose the distributor could be worn but that would not be my first concern.

I am in the same camp here..... sounds like you MIGHT have broken a mount.....OR bent frame a bit......

Glad to hear that it wasn't any too major then. You might pick up a new distributor cap now but I don't think that yours should be damaged. If you do, take the old one and toss it into the toolbox and begin your "trail spares" box.
