Front page of Quadratec website, Cover of Quadratec catalog and an email from Quadratec all about MasterTop products. Anyone know anything about it? I am interested in picking up a tonneau cover and windstopper and the prices are better than Bestop and it seems a heavier weight as well.

Glad someone started a thread on this as I thought about it. Do most intend to run this Bimini top-wind stopper-tonneau cover full time during summer months as a substitute to the hardtop? I've got a hardtop currently and this was intriguing from a "cool" and different" aspect. The price is also appealing as I was considering the bestop trektop glide but there are too many red flags right now to drop $1300 on it and still knowing nothing on the 2 door. I guess I'm just questioning this setup in heavy rain and Mother Nature in general vs just buying a regular soft top

I have the Trektop NX already, so I will run the tonneau and wind stopper when the weather is good or a light rain, and be able to zip up the windows for a heavy rain.

I went ahead and took the plunge and ordered. Hopefully the quality is there.

My order was placed a couple weeks ago, advertised to ship from factory on April 21, I'm looking for an updated EDT now. Supposed to be heavyweight and made in USA. In heavy rain yes it will get a little wet inside, esp with doors off as I intend to use it, but I'm thinking the electronics will stay relatively safe and it will drive in the rain a whole lot better than a sun shade lol.

@ClemsonJK89 I'm searching to create a combo soft top. Using the mastertop bikini or Bestop's version with either the Off Road hero or Backbone rear window version. I was told by the founder of Backbone that the 2 door rear window version which sits more at a 90 degree angle (as compared to the 4 door version) can be modified to also work for the 4 door. It's unclear if we're actually going with the hard backbone cover to attach either of these. However this is merely temporary until Greg via AmericanConvoy.com create a Safari sop top for the JKU or we simply run with the current soft top till Greg notifies us.

Edit: Just wanted to make sure we're talking about Mastertop's cable style bikini top..

The reason we're selecting this type of top, is because we wanted something that fit as close to or into the door surround channels.. I've not been able to locate a bikini top which has the pulls tabs like the standard soft tops. Not going to deal with the velcro straps which tend to allow water into the jeep via the tie downs.

Summer Top combos are not a good option for keeping rain out of your Jeep. If you need something weather sealed, a full soft top is what you want.

MasterTop is a very high quality top manufacturer that is priced significantly lower than other comparable tops. They really have a great idea and I feel like they could be the next big soft goods type manufacturer. If you are set on a summer top, mesh or similar, definitely give them a shot. Don't forget, we do offer Wrangler Forum discounts as well!

For a discounted quote you can go about it 3 ways:

1) PM me with your first & last name, address, zip and the part numbers you would like to order. I'll reply back with a discounted quote if applicable. This takes 1-2 business days (or less) on average depending on PM volume.

2) E-mail my sales rep Rob at: RobW@quadratec.com Tell him you're a Forum user and would like a discounted quote. He'll get that going for you. He typically responds within hours if it's Mon-Fri 8am-5pm Eastern.

3) Call my sales line at 1-800-745-2348. Tell them you're a Forum user and would like to place an order with your Forum discount. Their hours are Mon-Thurs 8am-Midnight, Friday 8am-9pm, Saturday 9am-5pm.

Whichever you prefer works for us.

Thanks & have a great day!

@Quadratec I decided to buy a wind stopper and tonneau cover from MasterTop through you guys. Hopefully you get some in soon and the quality is there.

I was a little put off when I tried to contact MasterTop directly though, and you may want to give them this feedback. Their email address on their website came back as undeliverable and the message I sent them via their contact form I still haven't gotten a response back on. They have no Facebook page or Twitter page for contact that way. And since they are so new they have no reviews, it might have been smart to have some people test out and give reviews so they were ready for launch. Just my .02

Hey all,

I just wanted to touch on a few topics as follows.

-MasterTops are assembled in North America, Mexico to be specific. The material used is made in the USA.

-Only MasterTop Tonneau and Wind Stoppers can be used together. Other brands will not zip into the MasterTop brand.

-MasterTop does not currently offer a cable style Bimini / Bikini top. At this time, Bestop is the only brand we offer who has that product.

-I have contacted MasterTop and let them know of the issues you encountered, @Tuck005. They are working on resolution now.

-If you have a MasterTop backorder and would like an update, please PM me your order number and I can check the estimates. As of the moment we have a shipment arriving this evening or tomorrow morning. We have another shipment arriving this time next week. Another shipment the week after. Another after that. And so on. Most backorders should be kept to a minimum wait time once we receive our main stocking shipments.

If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to ask.

Thanks & have a great evening all!

Just to confirm what I was told earlier, he tonneau and wind stopper I bought will work with my Trektop NX in bikini and the Bestop tailgate bar?

@Quadratec Not trying to dispute your information, But I was merely pointing out that it appears that the Bikini rest in the surround channel which could indicate a cable style restraint. Please take note of the pull strap (on the Mastertop Bikini) located just behind the second row doors as this IS a cable style pull strap, which Bestop also uses on their bikini top as shown here:

Image

It's been hard to locate any images of the full set/mock up of this on a wrangler unlimited. Is it possible for you to post images (assuming you have this bikini at your location) of how this top attaches to the surrounds or at least if this is a cable style or the bikini has plastic tabs which actually fit into the surround channels.

Thank you.

Edit: Note to anyone thinking of purchasing this setup, we would hope that one would be considerate enough to offer up images based on the installation of these three components. I would as soon as the jeep arrives in a few months and we actually have the time to exam this top base upon others images.

Thank you again.

I won't have the full setup, but I will post info on the tonneau and wind stopper when it arrives and I get it installed.

Sound like a plan @Tuck005 Although at one point I was leaning towards Greg's Safari top, The wife isn't hip on the idea especially 3K price tag. So she wins out on getting this setup, which I'm fine with. Today, I'm feeling creative so I've taken 3 images off the mastertop site and I'll try to mesh these together. will post shortly for those wanting to see what it might look like..

K Just completed my mesh/mash Mastertop Combo setup via Lunapic.com

@Quadratec in this image:

It appears that the straps/grab handles are constructed within/under the tops edge, which in this case looks as if the tops out edge actually folds or lays down onto the door surround. Which is way better than having the straps simply bypass the surrounds and attach to the sports bar allowing moisture into the cabin.

I have been running my Tektop NX in bikini mode with a pavement ends tonneau and windjammer for the past month and a half. I saw many say above that summer top combos do not work in the rain. I disagree. Other than occasional drops, rain doesn't get in. You just may need a quick towel off on the door surrounds. Nothing else gets wet. I will probably run a combo till late fall.

This mastertop zipper down windjammer looks like a great feature. I wish I had it on my current one.

Crap.. just found out and thought I'd share with others before they could make the same mistake. According to @Quadratecs site Mastertop page:

All MasterTop Black Diamond Bimini tops and Bimini Top Plus use up-graded 28 oz Sail Cloth fabric for the ultimate in durability and great looks.
Hello?.. we have half doors and the uppers are't made from sail/twill cloth and it would look something like this if we installed this setup:

*FacePalm*

So it's back to the drawing board. Possible candidates: Off Road Heros or Jeep Back Bone..

Correct. Twill, Black Diamond, Black Denim, Black Vinyl (All the black colors) are not a match to one another. We do do not offer Twill uppers at the moment. I am actually not aware of any company (Including Mopar) that offers them off the top of my head.

Here's some info I got last week on my order, mind you it is a JKU, but the shipments have and are arriving last week and this week. Now may be the best time to snag a set if the initial shipment has not already been sold.
Yes, sir! We plan to receive shipments on a weekly basis.

This looks like a pretty good summer solution. Any work or info on their soft top they show as "Coming Soon" on the website? Im thinking of getting the three piece setup but debating to go with the long or short Bimini with my 2door. Might look silly with the long top and tonneau and wind stopper.

More research has shown that we're closer to figuring out what set we're needing to complete a bikini top/cargo cover on the wrangler unlimited. As @Quadratec has said, MasterTops doesn't offer a cable style bikini, However, Bestop does. With that in mind.. we've been searching for an extended cargo top which extends into the cabin area of the second row seats.

Again Bestop has this setup.. But we're not to hip on how it's designed. In steps Smittybilt with their Tonneau & extended Tonneau Covers as these look a bit more pleasing. Except, It's unclear how the extended Tonneau Cover mounts within the second row seats. If one is wondering, Yes the second row sears would remain down and tucked away unless we have company. Also, one might need to envision that our jeep will have half doors offering an even more open air feeling.. Sort of starting to look like a truck?.

Image

Lastly, I have heard that water tends to build up on these fabrics and flow into the cabin. I'm wondering if there is a ribbed product which when placed under the fabric allows any water to flow off the sides and not down into the cabin or is this where Aries lock boxes are used under the fabric as to create that hard shell appearance.

This mornings update/Search seems to indicate that the Smittybilt Bowless Combo Top offered more coverage than any bikini style top. The reason, is that the bowless top attached with the plastic tabs on the door surrounds. Where as the bikini style uses straps and attaches to the sports bar.

Because the bowless seem to be our best logical choice, we're not thrilled with the side & rear slanted windows. So being that it's a combo top. the sides and rear window can be removed. which we'll end up doing anyway. Using the Smittybilt Tonneau & extended Cover there after.

The only issues I foresee is if any rain would enter the cabin from this type of set up. then there's the point where don't know what to expected as for the surrounds. (mainly the second row door surrounds) Are these firmly attached in some way as to withstand any stress/force from having just the Bowless installed without any doors mounted or with the use of half doors.

@ad78 Good question and one I've been looking into.

The jammers/stoppers do not cover the entire area around the cabin. Thus leaving small cracks or seams exposed to the elements. However, Mastertop's version does seem to offer a tighter fit with more coverage than it's competitor as seen here:

Image

But again as this is the only image of the stopper I was able to locate and this set up could/will be different on the 4 door version.

Where as some Jeepers have been using a 2 door wraparound version which encloses the compartment. The issue here, is that the 2 door jammer/stopper was designed for the 2 door and not the 4 door where as the second row seats tend to push the jammer/stopper back and stressing the fabric.

Edit

Found it:

Image

As you can see this is going to leave a lot of openings around the second row seats. Which is why some jeepers have been doing the 2 door wraparound jammer on the 4 door.

In my projected image (Crude attempt) I was trying to see what it looked like with the second row seats down and an extensions added which moved the windstopper forward or closer to the front seats..

Image

The orientation in my edited picture is off, because I didn't move the windstopper closer to the front seats.

However, I found a better image which will allow me to correct orientate the windstopper more towards the front seats. I'll work on this image later today.

Image

FYI: Even though this windjammer is listed as a extended duster cover with a window.. it's offered by Bestop on fortec4x4. The issue in this image, they (not knowing who they are) used a wraparound jammer in place of the more open design 4 door wind stopper/jammer which makes the jammer look like it covers more of the area around the cabin.. Check the fortec4x4 link and you'll see 2 other (correct jammer) images with large gaps.

Following your posts. I am wanting to configure the same thing. Basically a frameless soft top, and tonneau that extends to the back of the front seats, with a "rear window" right behind the front seats so it looks kind of like a truck with my half doors. I had a stretched YJ (LJ length) that I bought the 1/2 cab soft top for and I loved it.

@JeepinAR I like your thoughts on this and perhaps we can collaborate on trying to work something up. I don't like the less than perfect coverage windows, yet using a 2 doors jammer on the 4 door would stress the top and one might have to have this replaced more often than not.

Our intentions is to create a truckish appearance using only soft materials. if one isn't going to be using the second row seats, an extended cover would be optional. But I find these to be not so weather proof either. We're asking companies to be more creative with their products for people like us.

I did have a thought today about the bowless triangle rear windows.. Taking this idea from the JeepBackBone one could either flip the triangle windows upside down and try to install it that way. or keep the same orientation and simply move the rear window/side windows right up front towards the front seats.

Again just ideas which one may have to and be willing to sew these thing themselves. GL

I read it this morning, looks intriguing, I've spent my top money this year on the Mastercraft combo so I will keep an eye on what you guys come up with and if it's a winner that would be something to look into next year, my wife already thinks I'm nuts. I do have my back seats reclined so it may be a stretch (pun) to wrap it around the back two seats. Putting it behind the front seats with the rear seats down and an tonneau extension does look pretty sporty.
