I've used Purolator and Fram forever. When my wife's Subaru started having troubles, they eventually diagnosed the issue as clogged internal oil supply lines. These are built into the engine and supply the overhead cams with oil. The dealer said that there are internal screens that collect the debris that makes it past the filter, and these were clogged. When I proved that I regularly change the oil, Subaru chipped in for the repair, as the car only had 60k on it. They then told me that aftermarket filters don't meet their standards and that I should only use Subaru filters. I have no idea if that's true, but I saw the clogged screens from her car. I plan to use OEM filters going forward, cheap insurance in my opinion.
