Hi All

First time post. I am looking at throwing some boat carpet in my Wrangler. It is cheap, and seems better than the moderately priced kits out there.

Does anyone have experience with installing uncut/non formed carpet? Photos welcome, and advice.

Alternatives, too. I have also considered a liner, but prefer the look of carpet. I also imagine carpet is (minimally) less noisy.

Thanks!

My advice would be dont install carpet in a jeep it will trap moisture and rot out the floor boards.

Without it being preformed, I think it is going to be a major pain in the arse to try to install, and its not going to lay right.

(You might also have this moved to the TJ Section)

My 94 has had carpet in for 24 years and 270k miles now... still no rust

As for flat vs formed.... there are times in life where cheaper is better and there are times when you get what you pay for... w complete molded carpet sets being available for $100 and the flat carpet being at least $25 this is one of the latter

Mine has snap in factory carpet in it, pulled it out the other day and it is just like new under it, not even a spot of rust anywhere.

Stick with formed. I installed regular floor carpet into an old pickup years ago (fun fact, its still there), and it looks absolutely terrible.

As far as carpet/no carpet and rust, I have carpet in mine and when it gets wet I pull it out. My floors are solid

While boat carpeting would be great in a Jeep, cutting and forming it so that it looks decent at a minimum would be a pita. From my own experience with "one size fits all" type carpeting, a pre-molded kit is a much better alternative.
