Falcon Shocks 2.1 vs 3.1

So I’m looking at new shocks and have pretty much decided on Falcons. My question is if the 3.1 reservoirs are worth the extra price. I mean they obviously look great, but what would I gain in performance? Would it mostly be beneficial in higher speed desert driving or would I see a benefit in daily driving as well?

As far as the 2.1s go, has anyone compared the ride of the 2.1 to the 2.1 Sport?

At the end of the day, I don’t want to spend the money on the 3.1s, but I will if it avoids regret later.

I have the 3.1 and love them. they provide longer travel then the 2.1 if that is important. as far as daily driving on the street I would say there would be no real difference.

I’m going by the Teraflex facility where they make them on Wednesday and take a look at them side by side. I have been through there before, but wasn’t paying close enough attention to the Falcon shocks other than checking out the machining centers.

The 3.1 will also offer the traditional advantage of remote reservoir shocks, i.e. more heat dissipation. My Bilstein shocks would actually hiss when hit by water on the trail, they were that hot! My Falcon 3.1 run cooler. Bigger shocks and more oil mean better heat dissipation and more durability.

However if you don't offroad much or too hard, 2.1 will do just fine.

So I went to Teraflex today and went into their Falcon production area. It was quite impressive. They have invested quite a bit in the machining centers. I think that I’m going to spring for a little extra and get the 3.1s so that they are upgradable later.

It was interesting to see the difference in the 2.1 and 2.1 Sport. The Sport version is very firm. I believe too firm for a daily driver.

One of the coolest things was the employee parking lot. Pretty much all personally owned JKs.

I don't think you will regret going 3.1 over the 2.1 just for the extra travel they provide. I love mine and I have around 13000 miles on them now and not once have I thought "man it would be nice to adjust my shocks".

Ah, just go with custom valved Kings.

Most of the trails I do or have done are pretty easy. My Rubicon shocks can handle most of it. I’ve had the 3.3’s and they were way overkill for what I needed. So the choice for me would have been the 3.3’s or 2.1’s. I think i have decided on the 2.1’s. I just want better than the Rubicon shocks. I may also want better than the Recon springs.

^^This^^ I will definitely be doing some harder trails, but none that involve the type of wheeling that creates much heat in the shocks. Plus, my Recon is a daily driver 2 door, without the back seat, and no plans of ruuning the tire carrier. Like you, I am doing the regular 2.1s, and the Teraflex 1.5" springs for a little more tire clearance.

I have the 2.1's regular and they are great for what I do. If I ran hard in the desert then the 3.1's would be better, but I don't. They work fine on the parking lot speed bumps.
