So the 35's are shipping for my LJ and I know I need to re-gear at some point. I have no problems with doing it myself but figured I was in at the dealership, picking up my plates, so I figured why not get it quoted.

I asked what they charge to re-gear the axles.

I was told $2500/axle :jawdrop:

I asked why so much and was told because they only use Yukon gears and it's 10 hrs labor per axle.

Yep, not going to have them do it.

Unless you have thever tools & know how, changing gears isn't for the home garage mechanic. Once a vehicle is out of the factory warranty it should never be seen at a dealer again.
A local 4x shop will have someone that knows how to do gears or even find a off road club, they will usually know someone that can do it.

That is absolutely LUDICROUS pricing, absolutely. Gears and install kits will total less than $500 for both axles. Maybe 200 more if you want carriers for both axles. There's around 7 hours of labor total for both axles at the very most to install them. $1400-1600 is typical with $1600 being on the high side including all parts and all labor for both axles. Total.

I literally just received a complete set of the very best quality gears and install kits you can buy two days ago, they're from Revolution Gear manufactured by Circle K. You cannot buy better quality. That kit retails for $475.92 at https://revolutiongear.com/product/jeep-tj-rubicon-d44d44-koyo/

My first regearing job including all parts & labor was just a shade under $1300. My last regearing job for all parts & labor was just under $1100 because I knew more about what it should cost and I knew what was involved so I pushed back harder for an acceptable discounted price.

$2200 to 2500 is a price a shop would quote if they're out to gouge/screw someone who doesn't know what it should cost. The only way they should be quoting that pricing is if that price also included full carrier lockers or Truetrac LSDs for both axles.

These are all the parts required, ring & pinion gears plus master install kits for both of my axles. $474.92 total. Some will need carriers too but those can be found less than $100 each.

But if you go with 'thick' ring gears as I did, you won't need carriers like the carrier split guides will indicate.

Whoa...that is super high...

I got a quote here on Long Island for $1,750 for re-gear, ARB Lockers install and D30 truss and Inner C gusset install.

It was the first place I called on a friends recommendation and the guy laughed when I tried to haggle.

At first I thought he was being rude, but now I realize he was already giving me a huge break... [emoji53]

My local guy does gear installation for $175 each for labor if the axles are removed from the vehicle and brought to him.

No I haven't called TNT yet BIG W. I did call Goonies and got a quote of $1750. If you already have the gears wouldn't that void the warranty on the regear? From what I understand wherever you go they supply everything and if something goes wrong within a certain time it is under warranty and they fix it. If you bring them your own gears and there is a failure they can blame the gears and refuse to fix it. That's just the way I see it. Anyway I called another place I think is in Hicksville about 6 months ago and the lady that answered the phone said the owner would call me back and still waiting till this day, I guess they won't be getting any of my business.

The quote I got was $1700 front and rear, total. If you wanted to add lockers, that ups the price to around $2k per axle depending on locker (ARB or e).

Gears are around $500 so $1,200 for labor, sounds similar to prices in southeastern PA, I paid more in labor for my re-gear ($1,400) but it included install of the air lockers/lines/under hood air compressor and new shafts. I was more than happy with that price considering I couldn’t have done that job in a month if my life depended on it & probably 4 trips to the ER, & I still woulda ****ed it up.
