I’ve changed a few sets of Yukons and had zero issues. They set up good, ran well and the oldest set were 5.38 which were still quiet after 150,000klm (daily driver) when I sold the Jeep.

Unfortunately these big boy pants don’t have time to do another regear.
lol. exactly. glad to hear someone else say it aloud. that's always the issue for me. 60 to 80 hour a week job plus travel again now that covid is over. never enjoy dudes assuming we all have weekend's off to wrench and implying there's a manhood or skills problem. i still do most stuff myself, but i did go to a pro for my re-gear. we've got a guy in my area who does nothing but axle work and is a legend around here. He does all sorts of extras like sends your gears off for REM polishing before he'll even install (takes a ton of pressure of the break in). Etc etc. When you've got Michelangelo down the street makes no sense to paint your own ceiling.

Old thread but I'm very curious who you used. I'm only aware of one guy in CT who fits that description.
Globex Performance in Toms River, NJ. Their price for a AEV 2 1/2 lift and new 4:56 gears was so much better then any price in Connecticut I trailered my Jeep to them. Left it for a week and picked up the following Saturday. Everything was done extremely professional zero issues after 3 years!

Ah. I thought you meant you used a deep expert with 15+ years exp in re-gearing in CT who hated Yukon. As I mentioned to someone else, CT definitely has a re-gear rockstar (his shop literally only does/has ever done axle and pinion work) but I've never known him to be a vocal Yukon hater.

Dealing with this issue myself. 4.88 Yukon gear set installed at shop a year ago. I seldom get on interstate but after break-in period, a harmonic hum between 56-62 mph. It has continued to get louder over past year. Took back to shop and the mechanic had no idea what it is. At cruse or slight increase in speed it’s loud. The second I get of gas it goes away. So under any load at that speed I hear it. Now even hearing it from 28-30 but not nearly as loud. At this point I am considering new axles.

I don't have Yukon's on my 5.13 so not a shill for them. But i do think too many people are quick to blame the part rather than the install. Between the Yukon branded parts and the separate company they own (Standard Gear) they ship over 100k units per year and have been for years and years. I find it a little hard to accept that they're the utter garbage ppl on here like to say they are particularly since a gearing job is expertise-based not time based. Not even a generally reputable neighborhood shop can do it right. And most of the "off road" shops are really just lift specialists. Really need to go to a gear and axle only shop.

On my on going desperation to have my gears fixed/quiet, two reputable shops have told me Yukon gears are junk and they arent surprised the gears are loud. i have done every step I could take to ensue the noise is coming from the gears and nothing else. I’ve driven with the front driveshaft disconnected, still noise. I have revved the engine in neutral, no noise which tells me it’s not the engine or transmission thankfully. I have replaced every single wheel bearing, still have the noise. I can absolutely say it’s the gears making noise. The first shop said they are set up good, and they can’t do anything to get them to quiet down. The second shop took it for a test drive and says it is the gears, will be working on it in October…

I always was under the impression Yukon made good gears… if this second shop can’t get my gears to quiet down I certainly hope Yukon will give me a refund or a replacement. They completely stopped answering my emails. To say I’m disappointed is an understatement. Unless this second shop fixes the gear noise I’m going to go with the gears I should have gone With in the first place, Spicer.

has anyone else ever had issues with Yukon?
FWIW, I’ve run Yukon 5.38 gears with 37s in my ‘09 JKUR since 2013 and nearly 60k miles without any issues whatsoever. I’d have no problem recommending Yukon.

Yah it’s pretty easy for an installer to blame the part rather then take responsibility for a poor instal. And people tend to accept that with no proof…

I have also had excellent service from the Yukon 4:88 gears that were installed by a reputable shop. 20k miles with plenty of offroad use.

Yeah, after it was all said in done, the shop who did the install absolutely just blamed the manufacturer because it was the easiest thing to pass blame on to. I would consider this local shop more of a lift kit installer/bolt on parts people rather than having the skills to do anything more involved than suspension. I would never go back to them. Maybe one day I’ll give Yukon gears another chance, but I would still try to get something made in USA or at least South Korea.

Did this ever get resolved? Or are you just driving around with noisy gears?

I had mine done in 2016 and 60K miles later have no complaint.
