Hi all, I've got a 2007 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon with the 3.8 auto combo with 173k miles. I truly haven't had any issues and would go as far to say between me and my buddies' jeeps it's a reliable powertrain if you run 10w30-10w40 oil in it and change fluids often like I do. I would like for a fun project to do a hemi swap as the 3.8 is a weaker motor and I'm running 35s and honestly want that v8 rumble. I was looking at options and wondering what exactly would be needed for this. Say I get a donor vehicle like a 2005-08 Grand Cherokee with the hemi and 545 rfe. What else will I be able to use, for example any wiring, computer, intake, radiator, exhaust anything like that. I would like to do bare minimum but would like working gauges and can fabricate some of my own parts and have a welder. I'm assuming bare minimum would be wiring harness, computer, engine mounts, trans mounts, replumbing the intake, and exhaust. I know there is more than this but I'm trying to see what my total cost would be. If anyone has a complete list I would appreciate is shared. I have seen some people have been able to use a lot of parts from the jeep donors specifically. I'd just like to hear from anyone who has done it DIY or even just knows how to go about it and the process. I have some time on my hands as right now I have another daily driver. Thank you for any insight and info on this.

The quick and easy way is to find one with a V8 in it and write a check.

I don’t want a quick and easy way I want to take my time but do it cheap while I am not using it for a daily. If I was rich I’d just buy an aev 6.4 hemi swapped Jeep but I’m just looking to swap my 3.8 for the 5.7 and that will be more than enough power. I built my rig and would like to keep it and just want the fun project of doing a hemi in it. I’m looking for the fun of the project and doing it myself finding a complete hemi and trans on a wrecked Jeep isn’t as hard as it used to be so that’s why I waited until now to want to bother.

Check our Bruiser Conversions:

I believe they have a DIY kit and possibly offer a “list” of what you’ll need. They’re here in FL and I’ve seen a couple of their builds..they definitely know what their doin. If you’re not set on a hemi, check out MoTech:

I’ve heard nothing but excellent reviews with them and their customer service from my understanding is incredible. I know they offer a DIY kit and they did have a list of what’s needed on their website.

Hope this helps!! Definitely following..[emoji1303]

Or the folks who created the first 5.7 and 6.3l swap in a Jeep - AEV.

Sometimes I wish I kept my LJ and stuffed a 5.7 in it! I say go for it! When you're done I would like to go for a ride in it. Payment for all the support I offered.

Do any of the swap kits mate to a JK with a manual? I always see the adapters for the autos...

As I understand it, you don't want to use the 6 speed from the V6. I don't think it is strong enough. There are a few options for a manual trans V8 swap, but not many. Ideally you want a matching manual trans made to handle the V8, and it will bolt right up. Plus you don't need to worry about a TCM. You could use the manual trans from the Cummins diesel, but they seem rare. I have looked into it as I like our manual trans and I would love the V8.

Probably need to refab the trans tunnel to make the v8 M/T fit.

Thank you everyone for the insight. As for the manual I have seen people put the 5.3 ls behind it idk how long it would last but I have seen it done before. I have also seen a t56 as a somewhat "cheaper" option. I will definitely look into the options I have some time so it could be a while before I even start this between work and family but I will let this forum know what end up doing if I end up doing anything for sure. I appreciate the support and hope others can use this and also dump more info on it for future people who want that nice v8 rumble.
