I’m given to understand there are some differences between the 3.6 engines between the jl and jk’s.

Does anyone know about some of these differences? How about a good source for information? I can’t seem to find any information out there.

The biggest one I've heard of, maybe the only one, is the stop/start thing with the engine... where it stops the engine when you stop, and automatically restarts when you put your foot on the gas.

I wouldn't like it, but you can turn that feature off with a button on the dash. The problem is that you can't permanently turn it off on a menu somewhere. You have to push the disable button every time you start it up... assuming you don't like it, that is.

I don't own a JL. That's just regurgitated from what I've read.

As far as I know, that's the only significant change. Same basic engine.

Crap. According to those articles the aussies had a 3.6 in their 2010 jk’s!

My 2010 jk had that 3.8! Crap again.

Well, temper tantrum over that still doesn’t indicate any differences between the engines in the jk and jl. Of course there may not be any. I’ve just run across a couple of references to such.

I’ll just keep looking.

Very good article btw.

So were the changes made to have a better product for the consumer or to help the bottom line of FCA? Given the track record of FCA.

Same here, had several issues with GM EGRs, Suzuki (made in Japan) was acting weird from day one throwing EGR related codes.
What I specifically don't like about JL EGR is the fact egr is cooling ex gases from 1202°F to 266°F, which means additional heat load for the cooling system.
They are now adding e-torque thing which also have a cooled battery - this will add even more coolant hoses and load on the cooling system.
IDK maybe JL have a larger radiator and a different engine temperature management but judging by their winning fans at stop lights I doubt.

or failure... ug had to work on the father inlaws 2010 dodge ram 3500 cummins. his was so bad that the EGR valve cooling system was leaking coolant into the exhaust system. He was wondering why it was overheating. (3500cdn$ to replace) Rad was empty. Ended up putting straight water in the rad and called it a day. Worked fine while i was there in BC for the month LOL.

The 3.6 is not going away, nothing wrong with GTDI engines. This is a far easier way of meeting CAFE vs putting that POS MDS system (I traded my 17 Ram Hemi for the JKU) on everything. FCA looks to be following the path that Ford took with the eco boosts.

They are working on a Turbo Gas I-6 for the Rams.

Id have no issue with a 2.0 JL next time.

My 14 Ram 2500 6.7 cummins is a solid engine. The truck, all 8000 pounds will run off and leave my JK. The EGR has no maintenance and the DEF has had no problems. Just finished a 2800 mile towing my 8000 pound travel trailer, no issues and added DEF twice, no big deal. Except for off road ability, my Ram kicks my JKUR's butt in every way. It's faster, quieter, smoother, with a much better interior. When not towing it has a range of almost 600 miles, maybe more. The radiator does not leak and the oil cooler will not crack.

The EGR will require a cleaning IF you useyour truck as a grocery getter. But it sounds like you give yours a regular workout.

If I was in the market for a truck again, Cummins would be my engine of choice.

If they ever put a diesel in the Wrangler, it will have DEF along with a long list of other smog devices. It's my understanding that if a diesel goes into limp mode it takes a trip to the dealer to get it out. Fun times.
