This is mostly how I go at the moment. I don't have a fridge or fancy cooler yet, I haven't decided the direction I wish to go. As for sleeping I prefer hammocks, luckily I'm short enough that I fit in between the rollbars and my hammock. I tried using a single nest for a while but it was too tight and my feet kept falling out for the double nest works perfectly. The rear awning is a British basha shelter tied to the roof rack and my rock sliders with a couple of poles from cabelas.

That's the only picture I have of the hammock inside strung up.

I use a Pelican case that I keep on the roof rack for my camp kitchen.. It currently weighs 54 pounds fully loaded with the 2 cast iron pans and double stove. I have plans for at least one more Pelican case, probably for fragile personal items like my electronics and my typewriter. Aside from a bag of recovery gear, medic bag, and the pack I use for hiking I don't have much more as for paking at the moment. Next spring I want to take a week for the trans Wisconsin to prepare for the trans America.

I need to build a table yet, and an atic storage for the hamock and bedding. I want to keep a minimalist approach, and mind the weaight. I might do a 2inc lift and 33inc tires, but so far the 31s at stock height I've done just fine, and 33s add weaight.

Hello - I've been Overlanding now with a 2 doors Jeep Wrangler for 4 years now and every time I'm packing to go explore, I come with new ideas how to pack better and how to make current set up more efficient. I guess what I'm trying to say is that your set-up will always be changing! so be patient and enjoy the journey! here is a pic of my current set-up in the rear for any ideas. I've buy all of gear and storage keeping a tight budget in mind and being patient.

I’m planning on alternating between spending the night in the tent and staying in a nice hotel.
I do this even in my JKU and trailer just because it gives us a place to do laundry, take a good shower, and recharge. Wife needs that break after a week and it's a welcome change with a 1 yr old.

I guess that's my tip, make sure your hotel has a laundry facility or service. If they do offer a laundry service rather than facilities, make sure it's same-day and you're not stuck waiting for a 48hr turn around. I was able to get a free upgrade once because hotel concierge lied about laundry facilities which were only available inside 1 bedroom suites.

Rubicon at Rubicon springs hard to beat this camp for any amount of money. I know the dogs will agree, that water is cold but they dont care and that was in May. Up higher its snow.

Awesome pics. Word from the rubi is the water is 6ft deep in that spot right now due to the formation of a natural dam from fallen trees. 8 rigs were stuck up there in the last storm and had to find an alternate way around it. Took them 4-5 days to dig themselves out and multiple people attempted to rescue but even the snow cats couldn't cross water.

Yea i was reading that they were at Wentworth springs though. We run that same start every spring from Airport Flats first dirt. Places going into Went can be flooded in spring.
They were kind of dumb too. They took off in the storm when it was not 4/5 feet deep. They should have not went or did it before that storm was coming and be out. There have been more then few 4x4s that have been stuck the winter. Until spring...
even in may i was watching the weather since you dont want to BE the Donner Party.

Why we go in spring. Less people way less. Any snow is old hard pack can be deep but its hard unless it gets warm out, then its a mess... I time our run right after the first parties have cut through< can be a lot of trees to do. Im to old to do more then one. I bring a chain saw. Water can get deep even then in places, going into went can be a swamp in Gerrly creak is high. cool place when there is snow around and its open most trails close winters. Dusy is only open 3 months a year all Cali trails.

I wheel AZ winters and we go to Sandhollow but that is not "camping" . we bring a camper stay at the state park right in Sand HolLow full hooks ups.

jeep is stripped down in winter for day runs.
Winter wheeling in AZ has hundreds of trails, i used to live in Lake Tahoe grew up there anyway. Why i own a jeep my first vehicle was a 47 to run the rubicon back then.

just some pics of the old folks in AZ club lol...

Yep, I went in once on a Wednesday before memorial day (end of May) to setup base camp for the memorial day weekend. It snowed on me while I was setting up camp but only for a few hours. It was so quiet and peaceful being up there by myself and nobody else around with the snow falling.

I know a couple that drove through Central and South America, Then Africa and Europe in their 2 door JK. Roof top tent and a small fridge and they were happy. They had a blast too. It is all in your expectations I guess.
