I want to install the air lift 1000 air bags in the rear with the TF 2.5” spring lift. The TF lift kit comes with spring retainers for the rear in which the bolt fills the hole where the air bag hose is supposed to run through. It seems like I have two possibilities. One is to run the hose out of the top, thereby installing the air bags upside down from instructions. Not sure why this wouldn’t work. The other would be not using the spring retainers and installing the bags as per the instructions. Are the retainers necessary? It seems like since the springs are longer than my stock (albeit only 7/8" longer than my Rubicon X springs, quite disappointing by the way), that retainers wouldn't be needed since I didn't have them stock.

For clarification, the air lift 1000s are for increasing payload ability for towing my boat short distance, not for increased lift height. These worked wonders on my Ram.

Thoughts?

All bags in Jeeps are installed with the air nipple up. Not sure why their instructions show otherwise. Mine have been in that way for 3 years now... Enjoy!

I installed the same TF lift kit and Air Lift 1000 bags (2015 JKU). I put plastic wire sheathing over the air lines at any potential wear points and routed much of the air lines inside the frame, bringing it up behind the tail lamp and installed the Schrader valve inside the gas-fill cavity, which is concealed when the door is closed. Incidentally, the bags were installed so that the lines come out of the top of both.

Incidentally, unless towing or carrying a load, I routinely run with 10-15 lbs. in the bags, and I find that I need to re-check the inflation every 3-4 weeks. Possibly, I need to do a leak test, as the Air Lift system in an earlier vehicle seemed to hold constant pressure for months on end.

Payload is a hard limit set by the vehicle manufacturer. Only way to "increase" payload is to remove weight from your vehicle. The airbags will compensate for spring sag as you add weight though. I've used airbags before in drag racing apps to counteract for rear squat, hated cornering with them especially if you have a T to add air to both, and you have to run them at around 9-12psi when you're unloaded.

I run mine at 3-5 psi daily... 3 years in and no issues. And I run around 30 psi when loaded. That is full of gear in the cargo area AND my trailer hooked up. While the tongue weight is high, it's also adding the full cargo load that causes the rear to sag excessively. The bags bring me back to normal ride height (or close) and have caused no issues. I do not seem to leak any air... PSI drops a little in the winter time as expected.

Do you remember what Airlift kit number you used for you Jeep?

My Kit # is 60819.

Incidentally, I assembled using the "T" connector, rather than two independent valves for L and R. I've had them in for a few years, and the only incident has been a line popping loose from the top of one bag, which I was able to fix laying on the garage floor, using the Jeep's jack (the same as how I installed them).

Incidentally, I contacted Air Lift for which kit # to order for my application.
Also, since doing the repair (mentioned above) I don’t need to be so vigilant in checking the line pressure - I do occasionally give the bumper a bounce, or visually check the bag’s’ appearance. With the warming weather, I probably should bleed it out, some.

Does the AirLift 1000 type recommended for the stock JKU (part no. 60817) fit with the TF 2.5” lift? Mine has the TF 2.5” lift and i am not sure what to order from AirLift

I also contacted AirLift and acc. to my measurements they recommended 60920. I measured 130mm inner diameter of springs and 240mm inner length with the jeep unloaded. Still waiting for shipment, but I will let you know reg fitment. I called them because the website calculator recommended a much smaller airlift, but in description they advice to pick a kit “slightly” smaller than measured spring dimensions

My Teraflex Instruction pack says that my springs are:
8153102 JK 4-door 2.5" - Front
8154102 JK 4-door 2.5" - Rear

I have AEV bumpers & rear tire carrier. No roof rack, no winch.
There's minor spring sag with back loaded; some when trailering, but the air bags compensate for that.
The Jeep actually rides better with more weight in the rear.
