I was wondering how I could figure out what transmission I have? I noticed my fluid is running low under the hood and I need to know what kind of fluid/transmission I have/need.

Any help will be appreciated!
Thanks

Ok, that helped. Your transmission is an Aisin AX-15 which requires a GL-3 or GL-4 75W-90 gear lube. The best recommendation for that I can offer is MT-90 from Redline which is a fully synthetic gear lube that meets all of the AX-15's specs and works very well in the AX-15 transmission. :)

Your new 5-speed transmission is an Aisin AX-15, more commonly simply known as the AX-15. It requires either a GL-4 75W-90 gear lube or a synthetic 10W-30 motor oil. No worries on the seeming discrepancy on those two viscosities, gear lubes and motor oils are measured differently and they are both essentially the same viscosity in reality.

The very best lubricant I can recommend for your AX-15 is Redline MT-90 which is a fully synthetic GL-4 75W-90. You can get it at a discount from www.summitracing.com.

Im a little stumped here

I have a 97 TJ 2.5L with a manual transmission. The factory service manual shows that I have a AX-15 if you go by there "shift pattern". But I believe (if im looking at it right) if you go by where the serial number is I have a AX-5. But my drain plug is on the bottom of the transmission not on the side which would make it neither the AX-5 or the AX-15 if you go by the images in the factory service manual.
