What does "YJ" stand for?

General Purpose was slurred into JEEP, supposedly.
There was the DJ - Dispatcher's Jeep
The CJ meant "Civilian Jeep".

I don't think YJ was just a designation and never meant anything, but I see how people call it "Yuppy Jeep" like they say TJ means "totally joking".

Anyone have a valid or conceivable definition for YJ? Or it's just 2 letters?

They certainly aren't for yuppies any more! You need to be redneck/jimmy rigger certified before you even step within 10 feet of one

Just joined the site, but wanted to throw this out there:
Never heard of "DJ" before, interesting, and everyone knows about "CJ" for Civilian Jeep. As far as I know the story, AMC was concerned the CJ appealed to too many older WWII, and Korean War vets and wanted something to appeal to the younger generation, and labeled it a "YJ" for "Youthful", "Younger" or "Your Jeep". Take your pick, depending on the source, because I think all terms were used at one time in adverts. Whether the designation was on purpose or just fit their needs, I don't know. AMC never to my knowledge referred to it as a "Yuppie Jeep", for obvious bad advertising reasons. That was something old schoolers called it, like we refer to the JK as "Just Kidding". "TJ" actually DOES have a meaning, or at least that's according to my friend at Manhattan Jeep, who sold me my '01 TJ, the "T" referring to improved track bars. Somewhere along the way people associated torsion bar suspension with the TJ and thought that's where the "T" came from. If Chrysler put a torsion bar suspension on my TJ, I'VE never found it. Whatever, do the rest of you get the feeling FiatChrysler are trying to kill off the Jeep as we know and love it? Watch out for the new "Rubicon". Don't be surprised if the 2 door Wrangler, whatever the initials, disappears soon.

Jeep dies when they produced a 4 door "wrangler" IMHO. If you want a jeep branded vehicle go get a cherokee or liberty or something, but not a wrangler. They were never made for comfort, they were made to get around outdoors. That's why I have became fond of older jeeps the more time I spend with mine, They really are the best thing out there.

I agree completely with Big Earl. If they had made the JKU with only two doors, I would have been all about it. I personally don't believe all people who drive a JK or a JKU is as bad as we make them out to be, but I genuinely am not a huge fan of the appearance of the JK, over all. I would probably drive one, but they are not my favorite, appearance wise.

I went nuts when I first laid eyes on the new YJ, back then, the squared inset grill headlights were reminiscent of the MB model, the original mobile mechanical mule that gave the world freedom from tyranny I purchased the Sahara model in khaki green. I do have print photos and 8 mm video but sadly, none of it is digitized
you could take a digitalized photo of the prints ;) Just sayin!
