So finally getting to a point where i need to pick up the tow bar for my JK.

Per my build thread, seems like many people had good things to say about Blue Ox, so i want to go that way. When i went to their site, they have 12 models to choose from however.

Tow Bars | Blue Ox

Soooo???

How do i figure which one makes sense for me? I always prefer to focus on quality and strength for these types of things over saving $$ (a few bucks on this vs Jeep coming undone...).

Initial use case - flat towing 2016 JKUR behind my 2500HD Duramax with a class IV hitch.

Long term use case - flat towing JK behind a Super C diesel pusher RV (not sure what class that hitch will be, guessing also class IV).

Front bumper on JK is the LOD with the towing mount points, so that is already done.

Thoughts?

You didn't mention a supplemental brake system, and that should probably figure into your decision. The ReadyBrute tow bar incorporates a cable operated supplemental brake system, and whatever tow bar adaptors (connection to your bumper) you may need are available. Blue Ox also has a cable operated system.

I personally use a US Gear Unified Tow Brake (UTB) supplemental brake system with a Blue Ox Adventa II tow bar. I also use the cooltechllc.com JK wiring harness... works great for us!

This article has some info about how we are set up to tow... http://www.rv-camping.org/towing-a-vehicle, review of the UTB, and link to some information about the physics of towed vehicles.

Arggh.. the reason i didn't mention it is that i have overlooked that minor detail.

Now i need to go figure out my electrical wiring - AGAIN, and determine how to get this feature added in. Thanks for the info

To be continued.......

I use an Alpha with the off road attachments that fit the 3/4 inch mounts on my aftermarket bumper. Used it on the old TOAD, Just had to order the off road adaptors for the Jeep.

I use the Aventa, it's 10,000 lb rated. Have used it on a couple of cars(toads) and as soon as I get my LoD bumper (on order) I will be towing the Jeep with it.
Good sturdy unit and easy hook-up.
For brakes I am using the Brake Buddy, but there are several options out there.

Coming back to this, spoke to BlueOx and they recommended this one for me:

BX7420 Avail Towbar | Blue Ox

As long as the weight rating will suffice for any other vehicle you may potentially tow, BlueOx or Roadmaster are both solid. I found that the resale on them are pretty good for any model other than the basic models. The 7420 was our leading choice for BlueOx before we found a deal on the Roadmaster Sterling.

We were pulling our TOAD with a motorhome and honestly, just allow for some additional stopping distance and don't get pulled over causing a closer inspection. We drove probably 2-3 hours when the battery died on our TOAD and we were in the middle of nowhere. It just took a little bit longer to stop that additional 4-5k in weight.
