How common is to have a radiator to leak?

My 2013 Jeep Wrangler Sport has a leak in the radiator. The car has 110,000 miles. I do not have references of prior maintenance in this specific regard from the prior owners. I was wondering how common is to face this issue of replacing the radiator.

Mine is a 2013, and has never leaked. So no, it is not very common. I am basing that on many years in this Forum, and the quanity of complaints from our members. But yes, it has happened to some and more that once for the same person. MOPAR has lowered the Radiator cap pressure on their replacement caps to 17 lb's. So when you replace it, make sure that you install a new MOPAR 17 LB. Pressure cap on it.

I remember when I came back to the forum in 2017 there was a long thread on the heater core and radiator leaks affecting the 2012-2013 models.

this was it.

Cant provide any data to back it up but I suspect some of the radiator failures may be due to how many times the Jeep has been worked on where the hoses have been required to be removed. I havent had a failure with the radiator in my Jeep 2Dr (yet) but had two in my XJ. The failures occurred after work done to replace a water pump and later an engine. In both cases, the plastic tank cracked by the lower radiator hose.

There were several revisions to the radiator. I treat it like the oil cooler…I expect a certain amount of life out of it but still a maintenance item for us. i bought one and put in on the shelf just like the Dorman Oil Cooler.
neither which I have needed thus far.

I have a 2017 jkur with 55k on the odo.
Started smelling coolant about 1.5 years ago. Took it to the dealer. They said there was a small crack on the side cap of the radiator drivers side. Thay acted as if this was common. Said to watch it and replace if it gets worse. Starting to think i may want to buy onr as a backup.
Luckily the vehicle has an extended warranty.

Mine was leaking at about 9k miles. Dealer replaced it under warranty and has been good since. 60k on the Jeep now.

My 2016 has 35K miles. When I'm in front of the Jeep and the engine is hot, I'm getting a whiff of coolant from the hot air coming out of the grill slots. Can't find a leak. Nothing dripping from the rad. I''ve been watching the level in the coolant reservoir for about a month now and it doesn't seem to be dropping.

I fiigure it's a tiny pinhole leak,,, But, I guess it's just a matter of time until it gets bigger. Should get off my ass and replace the rad :)

Good chance you would see it for sometime. Most of the time it is behind the fan shroud and up high. The coolant will evaporate before it hits the ground.

$800 if you have the dealer do it but that was yesterdays pricing. Who knows what it would cost now. $1000 after taxes?
