Thinking of one of these for my CB (460lbs). What trailer hitches are out there that you'd suggest other than the standard ClassIII hitch?

As you are probably aware the tongue weight max for most Jeep hitches is 350 lbs. Draw-Tite has the highest rated hitch 675 lbs. But putting a 460lb bike plus the weight of the mount is probably going to overload the rear of the vehicle. Best bet, get a trailer.

I agree about the trailer. how far is that extended out to get past say a tire and still mount? when they did the ratting for this. Did they figure in the leverage effect of say 600 pounds on a point say 2 feet away? under movement so we have added shock loading. On a Jeep receiver. i would about bet that point twist. in time would cause FUBAR.
Heck i trailer the jeep............maybe i could just mount the jeep to back of the truck? ;)

I did this once on my 2 door with a harbor freight aluminum motorcycle carrier and a ~250 pound dirt bike. I had to remove the spare and the mount for it to clear the bike. I didn't like amount of sag and how all the weight was applied the hitch so I added some ratchet straps back to the shackle mounts on the bumper. After that it was pretty solid and didn't move around much while driving. That said, the front end was a bit light feeling but drove "ok". I also didn't care much for the short ramp on the carrier combined with the high platform height that made loading feel kind of sketchy.

I'm looking at smaller trailers now. Even with a Class III hitch for the Jeep, I just wouldn't trust that motorcycle carrier.
Not sure if I want an enclosed trailer, like a smaller 4x6 or a flat utility trailer.

Or...I suppose I could just rent a U-Haul motorcycle trailer.

Every summer I take a few weeks and meet up with some friends in northern Georgia and hit the mountains. I've always rode the motorcycle from start to finish until last year (when I had my truck) I decided to throw the bike in the bed and drive up, then unload it at a friend's house. What a game changer for a (getting) older guy!

If it's just for a couple of times every year then i'd think renting a motorcycle trailer from Uhaul is a simple option. If you're planning to tow the motorcycle often then owning a little trailer might be the ticket. An enclosed trailer will be more expensive of course compared to a flat utility trailer so think of function and how do you see yourself using the trailer. I'd think an open trailer will give you more flexibility with hauling different things but every need is different. I ended up with a small 7x12 flat trailer a few weeks ago and another offroad toy. There went my aftermarket axels to heck :) so i'll have to wait at least 2-3 years before i can even think of trying to upgrade again but oh well. The trailer weights 600lbs so if i needed to haul something and the wife was using my truck the Jeep will tow it without a single issue. I already installed the 4 pin trailer harness to the Jeep so she's ready for towing services. Trailer and the little rig fit in my garage so i don't have to pay for storage, and with the rig on top of the trailer the weight goes to around 2100lbs so my Jeep should be able to tow it, though the Jeep is not exactly something i will use often to tow this.
