Hi Evey one new group but not jeeps .. can some help and some guidance 2015 jeep Wrangler Willy's jk 44000 miles ..45000.00 jeep. one cold start sitting over 3 days top end chatter .. why read alot on it . Saying just norm .. come on. ...
Major complaint.Than rear differential has clutch pack . Been reading up alot on this rear on Willy's. Looks like I got rebuild on 5 year old jeep at 44000 miles on 45000.00 vehicle. fluid all changed as book stated and differential additive added.so you only get 40,000 to 60,000 miles average till clutch pack needed rebuilt . So my warranty was up last August 19th 2020 didn't drive the vehicle because of the virus pandemic now I'm stuck with the Jeep and a dilemma I called Jeep care they want me to spend an extended warranty for $3,500 I called the dealer to ask to look at it would cost me 150 Plus. For an answer I already know the question too the clutch packs beat. For a vehicle 5 years old that I got to rebuild the rear differential I asked cuz of the pandemic can you work with me got no answer not happy I ordered the parts $300 for the clutch pack $110 for the fluid. 3 days of my life going to be wasted on a 45,000 jeep that I got to rebuild a rear at 44,000 Miles not happy. Never been in snow or off road .wife's jeep. She's been driving manual trans for 30 years . All that she drives. it's her 2 jeep .. I tell you something I'm ready to leave the Jeep on jack stands and leave it as a showpiece. Springtime I hear a slight clunk on the passenger side as she would take off. change the differential fluid for a second time black the bottom drain plug had a grape size metal shavings on it I don't feel that I should have to eat this. What do others think . Then when I'm talking to customer care for Jeep she goes oh you got unlimited clock spring warranty can you tell me what it is .no I don't know what it is you got to bring it to a dealer and have them tell you well if you work where Jeep cares is for the airbag so not happy...

Welcome to the Forum, from Cave Creek AZ.
Sorry about your Wrangler low mileage failures. I have never believed in extended warranties, or coverage as some likes to call it. But when I purchased my 2013 JKR new, and started to understand all of the electronics as the day, I purchased the Mopar lifetime policy, with a $100 deductible per visit. If for no other reason, peace of mind.
Plus all of the issues with the New JL’s, buyers had better wake up and purchase the extended policy, or they will wish that they had.

Man, you aren’t stuck in that Jeep, there’s never been a better time to sell it. Carvana and Vroom both offered more than I paid for my JL on trade. Dealers are dying for nice used Jeeps like yours. Find something you’ll love and send that Wrangler on its way. Life’s too short to be aggravated about your Jeep.

Was not looking to really sell it .. paid cash for jeep as gift for wife what I'm trying say because cov she didn't drive it . cuz the rear problem would happened in that time frame . To build jeep that has so many problems for over priced jeep Wrangler.. I don't think you guys are seeing what I'm saying .. really not in market to deal with buying new Jeep truck are car. My Ford rangers got over 350000. Miles my Scion xB that's 2005 for 10000.00 still on road 300000 miles no rust .. for jeep that's was not beat off road nor in snow .. to have rear need to be rebuilt . 5 years low miles is pathetic. Not happy I kind of got screwed. see because of the covid.. I don't mind if truck had 150000. And happened totally understand things happen .. people just sell it ya ok not what really looking to do and I can't even get price on rebuild on phone got bring it come on .. sorry for jeep that's baby well taken care of . My wife got almost 30 years on Manuel trans .. I got to agree jeeps are more fad cuz most automatics .. I call it me 2 just what happen Harley been jeep Harleys and trucks since birth . We had 1975 jeep 3 speed early 90s best 300.00 spent and 4 years we beat the Jeep and road her hard .. 300000. Miles at end back rear the frame was bad and the rear axle slid out from the castle nut was common we had a guy offer us $1,000 for the drivetrain in 1997 . That was a jeep

Ha I understand I had to replace my spyder gears in my 2011 as well. It seems to be a common problem with that differential And you had jeeps that where jeeps built to last now jeeps are nothing but very expensive mall crawlers that are full of electronics that are built to fail They just dont have pride in that jeep name anyymore

Sorry my punctuation is not my friend I have dyslexia I try my best built a lot of motors rears and trannies in my life and I can put people to shame blindfolded building stuff my bad about my punctuation I try my best I'm not in English class and this is why I'm not usually on forms because I'd rather be wrenching than have an English professor scold me .. what you people may not understand and what I'm trying to say to have a vehicle almost $50,000 in 5 years to be stuck to rebuild it inferior made differential is not acceptable maybe you guys are high rollers and make a ton of money maybe you guys don't have family and kids maybe you still live at home I'm just saying no it's not acceptable that's what I'm trying to say ps. I saved for 6 years buy jeep cash to not have payment . As gift for my wife ..

I get it. You’re not happy with the Jeep. I don’t understand why you wouldn’t just cash out and buy something new. Put the Wrangler behind you. Move on. You’ll probably get almost all of the money back that you paid 5 years ago. As I said, used values are always crazy but the money dealers and consumers are paying for used Wranglers right now makes it a no brainer. Plus, you can unload it as is, you wouldn’t even need to fix anything to get top dollar.

If you decide to keep it, as someone said above, might as well take the time to upgrade the rear diff to a locker or a high quality LSD that won’t need to be serviced.

Pat yes very true on used car values. And jeeps also . All trying say not happy with warranty on low mileage jeep and because of covid I would have had my opportunity last year because I would have been driving it prior to that she would have been. not me. I'm not in the market to look for a new vehicle to pay another $3,500 on taxes on a new vehicle I do my money well and I do my money good so at the same time if I buy a new vehicle all I'm trying to say I wish Mopar Fiat diamond Chrysler would work with me with the rear issue if a rear is going to burn out in 40 or 60,000 MI that's a joke of craftsmanship I understand by upgrading the rear I've done it all I'm saying I feel like a person's being robbed because of covid did the right maintenance on a $50,000 vehicle and I understand what you're saying don't get aggravated you'll make your money back I ain't going to give the vehicle somebody like that for for 45,000 in the rear shot dude I believe in karma. I don't know I read a lot of people that are disgusted with the V6 with a major top end and motor issues I waited a while to get her a new Jeep because of the motor issues it seemed like anything 2014 and under had problems. So I finally found one that was a stick cuz she doesn't want an automatic and you buy a car I run my cars for 20 years .. all I can say is the new jeeps are made like crap .. a friend of mine had the same year Jeep we didn't even know we were buying them his six-speed manual trans was in the shop three times after it was there for 6 months he told him keep it I don't want it no more .. and just to say you buy a vehicle for almost $50,000 take it on the chin with low miles not how I do my business. And having the time to sell it look for a new one I got two kids got stuff like that going on just don't have the time that's why I bought a new vehicle for her .

The 3.6 is a solid motor, I wouldn’t worry about it. I had 115K miles on my JK over 7 years and never had any issues with it… just tires and brakes. My JK had the LSD too and fortunately I never had any issues with it. My JL has been solid as well, 16K miles and no issues, just oil changes and the steering box TSB. There are something like 10 million Pentastars running around in various cars/trucks/Jeeps. My JK was a little thrashy at start up and so is the JL but I’m not at all worried about it, they all sound like that, it’s the VVT. 0-20 oil might quiet it down a little but it won’t stop it completely, but if you read up on it, they all do this. Get her back on the road and enjoy. I doubt you’re going to have any luck getting 3/36 type warranty coverage or good will on a 6 year old JKU with 45K miles on it. No car company is going to goodwill anything covered under the 3/36 that far out IMO… it’s unrealistic. Sorry for your troubles.

I think the 2015s had the 5yr 100,000 mile powertrain. I dont think they'd forgive a year but you never know. Everything I read on the LSD is that it has about a 40,000 mile life or so depending on use. It sucks to pay for it and have it fail so soon. Personally, I had mine replaced under warranty right before it expired at 60,000 miles. It worked great for the two years since but I am starting to think its going again. Looking to trade up to a JLU but if I stay I would put a Detroit Truetrac in and forget about it.

I could use anybody's help to. let me know what upgrade I could do in the rear carrier parts and part numbers if they're Mopar ones or Dana ones to get rid of this clutch pack .like the one gentleman said he made it to 60,000 another one at 100,000 but at the same time let me know what the upgrades are part numbers and if it's Mopar Dana I'd really appreciate it . The ring and pinion gear are fine thank God so I wanted to know if I could use the same carrier what could I do to resolve this issue in another 30 to 60,000 Ml
Trutrac if I can use my ring gear 373s Mopar if there's a part number for the carrier. Or the Detroit one if you guys have a part number and if I could use my ring gear. And is anybody know that torque specs for the ring gear bolts. Or is there a way I could use the same carrier and just change the internal where the clutch pack is with OEM parts to something else let me know thank you very much highly appreciate it.

I have heard on this forum that the Jeeps with the factory Anit-Slip rear ends do give so problems and they are standard on the Willys models from the factory. All being said I would call Jeep Factory Service Dept. and talk with them, being nice and explaining the problem could get you some good results, I've had problems like this before and got results from the manufacture, just by being nice and don't bad mouth the product. I'm not a fan of Extended Warranties and have never had the need to use one on any vehicle I've ever owned and I'm 76 years old and had a lot of vehicles. I don't know what it cost to replace the parts that you need, by there should be a lot of standard Jeep rear end parts that have come out of Jeeps as many do change these rears out for different reasons, lockers, different gear ratios , etc., this Anti-Slip rear end offers very little help off road over the stock rear ends. I would probably not use the dealer on this repair, it's simple rear end gears replacement and a Off Road Shop can do the work, they are always changing gears out for customers and I believe the $3500 is out of the question, I'd be looking at different shops and find out about set of used gears, they would probably give you some advise on this. I think your ratio is 3.73, but don't quote me on that. All being said, I can be done for a lot less if you just shop around for used gears, or a new set by a reliable company.

I called three times . totally nice explain what happened . I agree with 100% but I was told they couldn't control like the covid or maintenance I tried yes it has 373s at first I was going to redo the clutch pack and after seeing the two gears upper and lower pretty much each one has chunk out of the center gear lip. So I'm not replacing it with the clutch system in it that's a given parts alone is going to cost me about a thousand if I went with the clutch pack and the gears and the wheel bearings in the fluid. Keep jeeping my wife when I meet her early 90s got 1995 jeep her father wouldn't let her get a Jeep but when she moved out first thing she bought she's always like Jeeps and so did I and both my kids do I like the older ones so does my daughter and son

It is actually cheaper to swap in a mechanical LSD like a TruTrac or Pro Grip then it is to rebuild the current TracLok differential. The rebuild kit cost almost as much as a new TruTrac. Then there is the labor for the rebuild time.

Do you know the difference in the two like what one does and what the other one doesn't do the tracklok and trutrac. And does anyone have a part number for the trutrac moper.? Like you said the clutch pack is going to be $350 the gears don't know yet say 300 350 at 700 not counting the axles that are leaking that shouldn't be. But if anybody has a part number for trutrac . Thank you and thank you everybody else . I know why the axle .may be leaking the vibration from the gears. to me is the reason why they're leaking..

Ive got a friend who purchased a lifetime warranty with the purchase of his Willys. It paid off, because he had to replace collapsed cam followers (rocker arms) and after they did that, he had to go back because of a misfire and they went in a second time to replace the passenger side head. Cost him $150 deductible and a lot of headache. I dont believe they offer the lifetime extended warranty any longer, according to him.

I would absolutely take it to an offroad shop and have them fix it. Dealers are, in my experience, a crap shoot.

The lifetime warranty cost the company a lot of money for wrangler repairs they will never offer it again. I was the second owner of a GM product over 7 years old and it had a rattle inside the steering I checked it myself and emailed GM and told them of my problem and said I dont think that should happen with a car with 62 thousand miles. they said I would have to take it to a GM dealer and have a authorized technition look at it to verify the asked for the dealer names in our aera and I told them of 2 they had me wait and and called and said one dealer wanted 180 to check and the other wanted 30 and asked what one I wanted to go to I picked 30 dollar one and made a appointment they checked it and said the rattle was inside the steering colum and was 2200 for parts and labor. Got back to GM and they said what do you want us to do I said fix it they said would you pay some for the repairs and I said 100 dollars they got dack to me and said we will have the dealer order the parts and have it fixed for you and they did so 130 dollars and some time it was fixed and the car was drove to 174000 miles and I sold it for a grand that was a good feeling to get that many miles out of a vehicle

I have to ask a question. I believe your LS unit is a clutch type with 4 coil springs pushing the packs together. If that's wrong, let me know. If the Jeep is driven by your wife, never been off road, how do you know it's defective? What led you to believe that? Does it chatter on turns?

This is totally not acceptable on a 2015 Jeep my warranty ran out last August because of covid I lost that on opportunity didn't drive the vehicle the oil was changed at 40,000 in the differential. To have to eat almost $1,000 in parts is disgusting on a $45,000 Jeep and about 2 weeks waiting for parts because you can't just replace the seal you got to do the spacer and the wheel bearing that'll probably cost me about 150 clutch kit spout 350 shipping and tax gears not sure yet just seen today that they're shot on a $45,000 Jeep that's 5 years old with 44,000 original miles so let me guess make sure I save another $1,000 for the next two years or so guess I'll be rebuilding a rear again and to the people that say oh just put oil in it and sell it now I believe in karma people that say oh I know you're dissatisfied with your Jeep I've owned a lot of trucks and a lot of Jeeps never in my life did I see something that I've owned this is a safety issue if those gears blew apart and that rear locked up my daughter and my son what in the vehicle and my wife doing 70 cuz you're allowed to on 380 in PA that's a safety issue and no it's not acceptable that jeep won't help me out it's not acceptable that I had to pull out $1,000 out of my pocket to get OEM parts cuz I'm not buying crown I'm not buying you know something off Amazon because a lot of the stuff there's counterfeit I've always tried to stick with OEM since I was a kid had a lot less problems that way I do all my own work motorcycles cars Jeeps but you took $1,000 out of my pocket it's a safety issue 44,000 miles it's not acceptable shame on Jeep shame on customer care when I called him and to the people not understand no it's not acceptable it's a safety issue point blank.

Oh Jeeps never been in the snow or the sand your mud no dirt it's only driven about 6 to 8 months out of the year. I got another jeep that we wheel with this Jeeps never been wheeled you could eat off underneath. my wife's been driving a manuel trans for over 30 years.. so you can't say it was from snow and ice that the clutch pack went prematurely can't say cuz it's not written in the rain either that the tires were slipping you can't say it was in the mud cuz you can go through this whole vehicle and there ain't no mud anywhere nor sand or salt it's a safety issue after I pulled the differential out and seen the gears chewed up like that and just think if I didn't know how to work on vehicles someone would just drive it .those gears would crack and lock up that's a safety issue . Then you get people oh just sell it you know you'll make your money back I don't feel like paying New Jersey more tax money than they already got at me out of this vehicle. to buy another vehicle I don't have the time to go shopping got two young kids .I bought two new vehicles one Chevy new 2018 I left it at the dealer had it for 3 months kept shutting off turning on on the highway that's another story you can eat that truck with the electrical issues these are new cars and we're going to go electric off point if you can't make new cars without ticking jeep mine underneath the hood like the Jeep does the rear almost grenadine. Chevy truck that has electrical issues ... No it's safety issue. And when I talk to customer care and a lady goes a lifetime warranty on a clock spring and you don't even know what it is how are you and customer care for Mopar .it's the airbag... Hire people that work on Jeeps . customer care not somebody for few bucks an hour just like AutoZone when you go to I don't even go to parts stores anymore cuz when you have to pull the computer screen over to show them what the part is I don't work there and I don't get paid there just like the self checkouts if I miss scanning something I don't work here my bad. Plus I pad cash for this jeep no loan saved ..

Notice when my wife was pulling away I would hear a clunk didn't hear it last year when I did the oil change in the differential use Mopar oil too plus I never towed with this Jeep either I noticed on the inspection shield on the left and right that covers the rotors and the ABS light switch it was wet with like dust on it cleaned it off my finger smelt it was gear oil when. When I drain the oil out I had just about 2 quarts ..
